5 Ways to Feel Relaxed and Natural in Front of the Camera
1. Trust Your Photographer
One of the best ways to feel comfortable in front of the camera, is to trust the person behind it (I know, I know, easier said than done!) You’ve hired your photographer because you believe in their vision and style, so let go of any nerves about posing or looking ‘perfect’. I’m here to guide you, and we’ll be working as team!
2. Focus on Each Other, Not the Camera
One of the easiest ways to look relaxed is to forget about the camera entirely! When you focus on your partner and the emotions you’re feeling, it will naturally come across in the photos. Share a joke, having a quiet moment together , or laugh about something that’s happened earlier in the day - these are the moments that make the best images!
3. Take Breaks and Stay Hydrated!
A wedding day can be a long, busy affair, and it’s important to take moments to recharge. If you’re feeling stressed or tired, don’t hesitate to take a moment to breathe, hydrate and reset. The more comfortable you feel physically, the more relaxed you’ll be in front of the camera. Don’t feel pressured to be ‘on’ all the time - taking a moment to step back and centre yourself will help you feel more at ease when it’s time for photos again.
4. Wear Comfortable Clothing
While look fabulous is important, feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing is just as essential. If you’re having to constantly adjust your outfit, it can make it hard to relax. Whether it means breaking in your shoes before the wedding, or choosing a gown that lets you move freely; when you feel good in what you’re wearing, it will translate into how you hold yourself in photos.
5. Practice in Front of the Mirror
It may sound a bit silly, but practicing in front of a mirror can help you feel more confident. Spend a few minutes before the wedding (or even leading up to the big day) trying out different poses, walking around and just seeing how you hold yourself. This simple practice can help you feel more at ease when its time for the real thing!
And don’t forget you can always book an engagement shoot, to give us the chance to get to know one another and have a practice run before the big day!
